Once I tore a major ligament in my knee, with a repeat tear 14 years later, that ended what was supposed to be a future in softball, I had to find some other way to remain involved in athletics. At first, it was diving into new, knee-friendly sports and activities. From triathlons (that time I signed up for a half-Ironman not realizing it would be a 6-hour endeavor...), to becoming a fitness instructor, to rowing, to boxing, it finally came together when I took the plunge from hospital and industry nutrition to sports nutrition.
Fast-forward from an injury to life as a registered dietitian, a few examples of how I help clients include:
-
Performance nutrition.
-
Symptom management (e.g., "I don't know what to eat while biking and feel like vomiting when I do").
-
Meal planning (e.g., day-to-day plans, tapering for an event, what to eat three days before a triathlon).
-
Food allergies and intolerances.
-
Weight maintenance, loss, and gain; body composition goals.
-
Management of medical conditions through diet (e.g., diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome).

Where Do I Work?
Head of Performance Nutrition, Major League Dietitian, Seattle Mariners Baseball Club, Seattle, WA: As the Major League team's first full-time dietitian. I'm responsible for the nutrition of the 40-man roster.
Where Have I Worked?
Director of Performance Nutrition, University of Washington, Seattle, WA: Oversaw UW's NCAA Division 1 Olympic Sports with the assistance of registered dietitians, fellows, dietetic interns, and fueling station managers. My program tied together medical nutrition therapy, performance nutrition, sports science, and hands-on learning.

Major League Dietitian, Houston Astros Baseball Club, Houston, TX: Was responsible for the 40-man roster. In my first season, I was the team's first full-time dietitian, traveling with the team wherever they went--including an appearance in the American League Championship Series (2020). In my second season, I advocated for a new dietitian position at Triple-A. That season, we made an appearance in the World Series (2021). I left before the third season began, but the Astros rolled out my vision of expanding nutriton services via new dietitian positions throughout the minor league, rehab, and development tiers.
